Week 1

July 27,2015 (Lecture 1)

What do you think a prototype is?
  • It is recreating your planned idea into a physical or digital form. It is a working model in able to demonstrate how the product works and how will the users interact with the product.
What form does it take?
  • A prototype can be digital or a physical form .
What do you need to make one?
  • In able to create a prototype, you need to have a clear idea and a plan of what you want as your product. You also need to prepare the materials you need in able to create a prototype. This means that for digital prototyping, software like Photoshop is needed. For a physical prototype, paper, pens, cardboard and etc. are essential.
What is it used for?
  • As this is part of the design process, creating a prototype will be able to test the design. This will help the creators to pinpoint what improvements can be made and what aspect works and does not before the final product
What is its purpose?
  • The purpose of a prototype is to reduce the time and cost in making the final product as this will revise the design.
When would you create one?

  • A prototype will be created once a final concept has been decided. This will help me test and revise my product to be able to maximise the product's capability.

Example 1: Physical Prototype

Example 2: Digital Prototype
